So Robbie’s back. And he’s brought Jesus with him.
I have long wondered about his general worldview; he was always the show-man, always the entertainer, but some of his lyrics were pain-filled and searching. In 2002’s Feel, he cried out:
I sit and talk to God
And he just laughs at my plans…
… I need to feel real [...]

Ever Wondered Why Lions Are Yellow?
Posted in Uncategorized, tagged faith, thoughts on January 25, 2009 | 30 Comments »
I can’t decide whether Christians are cowards, or atheists have the hearts of lions.
Maybe neither is true, but looking from my position of skepticism, one or the other is likely to become true for me.
It took this episode of Scrubs to force me to really take a look at what I believe about death. Sure, [...]
Civilisation

How do you define “civilised”? As in “he’s a while civil crittur”.
Perhaps someone personable and polite, with good table manners, someone you could invite to dinner with your parents. Perhaps someone reasonable, not forceful or demanding, but considerate.
How do you define “civilised”, as in a civilised society?
Perhaps one with a strong democracy, a good law [...]
Parody and Preaching

I have two links to share, both from the Burnside Writers Collective.
The first is just brilliant parody:
God Wants You to Read This Article
The second is more thought provoking, about the value of sermons as the primary teaching tool in modern Christianity. Don’t let the title put you off reading, it’s genuinely thoughtful.

Ibiza revisited
Posted in Uncategorized, tagged faith, ibiza on July 17, 2008 | 4 Comments »
I think I’d quite like to write a travel blog. The snag is that I don’t really travel, in fact, I’ve never left Europe. So since I’m just back from Ibiza, I should blog about it, and make the most of it.
Ibiza is synonymous with revelry, drunkenness, drugs and sex. What better place to go [...]
Simplicity – a follow on

I was asked a few questions by a friend, Ruth, in regards to my previous post entitled “Simplicity”, so I decided to make another blog entry rather than squeeze them onto a Facebook wall.
Is the experience you’ve written about something we’ll all face? Is it part of ‘growing up’? Is it the inevitable fall [...]

At university, I spent a lot of time studying money and the Biblical view of stewardship. I still have grand ideals about the stewardship of the resources God has given us – about giving, spending, time management, community and work, among other related issues. I read extensively on the topic, in particular on the theme [...]
The work-life balance?
Posted in Uncategorized, tagged dublin, faith, friends, work on June 10, 2008 | Leave a Comment »
Clearly my work life has changed in that I went from being a student to being a professional. The transition was steep: one day I could sleep until 12 even if I had 9am lectures, the next I’m sitting at a polished desk at 9am, wearing a starchy suit and squeaky new shoes, and by [...]
Suspension of Disbelief

(Following on from my previous post…)
I think that part of my problem with the Bible begins with teaching, not dissimilar to our the remarks of our preacher friend here. I’ve never doubted the authority of the Bible, I have always believed that it is God’s way of communicating with us. But recently, I’ve begun to [...]
Search Me?

A couple of months ago I decided it was time I delve further into the Bible, to help me to understand further God’s character through his divine revelation. To help me with this, I bought Eat This Book by Eugene Peterson, which is based around Revelation 10.9-10. I have only begun to read the book [...]
